This book is not (yet) published in English

I hope you like the book too. It is worth to read it! I am not telling about the story too much– never do in my book reviews – you have to read the book yourself and make your own opinion.

I am wondering if this book is the first book of a new series, or is just a stand-alone detective novel.
Edit thanks to the author: This book is the second book of a new series about the detective Maik Hof. The first book is called ‘De Lodewijkmoorden’ [NL]  – or translated in English: ‘The Louis Murders’. The book is about Louis XVII – the son of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette – who seemed to have lived and buried in Delft. I think that book is a nice start too to read about adventures, thrillers and so on all happening in and around the city Delft.
Though this book is a second book of the series, you can vrey good read them as a stand alone as well!

And and and….a third book is coming!…it will be published in 2017 and I am looking forward to it!

In my view…

This book is about the life of Maik Hof, a detective of middle age working in the district of the city of Delft. A strange accident happens and Maik starts investigating. There happens a lot throughout the story and it all takes place in just two weeks. Starting on a sunday morning and it ends on a saturday two weeks later. And in those two weeks, people start to think: is there a serialkiller walking around?

Writing style / spelling

The writing style of this author is quick so if you have time to read for a weekend, this is a great book. The author and the detective are new for me and I did not discover spelling- or grammar mistakes. Sometimes I was in doubt, but it sounded like a dialect so that was oke.

Main characters

The main character of this detective is Maik Hof, a middle aged man. He has a varieted team that exists of Anneke Laansteen (a young police cop), Tommie Lander (a senior police cop), Leo Vogelaar and their boss Peter Wilke. The best friend of Maik is Thierry Leistra who is on and off in the book and lends his gigantic villa those weeks to Maik. Dorine and Constance are two of Maiks best friends. Another important character is added to the story after a few chapters. But I will not spoil that so not mentioned here.

Enjoy reading!

  1. Thanks for your nice words and review. A third book is coming up in the course of next year. First book is called ‘De Lodewijkmoorden’ . It is about the followers of Louis 17 ,the son of Louis 16 and Marie Antoinette) who disappeared during the French revolution and seemed to have lived and buried in Delft. Thanks and regards,

    1. Dear sir Rippe,

Thank you for your explanation on my review! Great there is a first book too and a third is coming up next year. I did not realise it is a series, but it is nice you can read them as a standalone as well.
