My book review of ‘Super de Luxe’ written by Suzanne Vermeer
In my view
The story is about Emma van Zomeren, a famous vlogger in The Netherlands, who wants to travel the world and start her trip in Cannes to visit the biggest film festival of the world. There she makes some friends and her plans for a world trip changes. She experiences from that moment on a different lifestyle and she learns the pros and cons of having a lot of money and that being famous could mean that jealousy among the people around you lurks. The story is simple in the beginning and very detailed, you can imagine how you walk through Cannes or the French Riviera and its lifestyle. Yachts, catamarans, tall ships and so on. Halfway the book the story develops more and new characters emerge. The first part of the book does not read as a thriller but as a normal novel, halfway it evolves into a mystery novel and in the last part you really discover it is a thriller with a crime aspect.
Style
The writing style of this book is simple and detailed. The story line has a good pace in general but it differs throughout the book. The beginning starts quite slow and the writer tries to let you connect with the main characters and follow the story through their eyes. Halfway the book the pace finally speeds up (in terms of events and happenings) and the end goes really quick. I had to read the last couple of pages partly for a second time because of the (new) name changes, story plots endings and so forth.
Characters
The main character of the book is Emma van Zomeren, a Dutch famous vlogger in The Netherlands. Other characters in the book are from rich families, have a high influence through their function or are French or Italian. It is all fictional though and because the names of the characters play a big role in the story, I did not mention the side characters.
