My book review of ‘Amalia’ written by Claudia de Breij
In my view
This book is about the Prinses van Oranje, the Princess of The Netherlands. In 2021 she became 18 years old and in the Royal Family it is a tradition for the the first in line to have a book published about yourself that gives a bit more insight in who you are and what you do. Quite interesting because the public can that way get to know our future Queen a bit better. A bit superficial and politically correct of course. But still quite interesting. The famous comedienne of The Netherlands, Claudia de Breij, had the honor of writing the book. If the book and the main character match, you get a well-written book about the main character that feels less shallow than the first assumptions you make when you pick up this book that is initiated by a tradition.
I have not read many biographies who are not about accomplishments, awards, successes to celebrate and a bumpy road that went ahead or where it ends with. This book is really personal and so for all the things Princess Amalia does and loves to do in her daily life and the few adventures she has already undertaken: You’ll have to read the book yourself
Style
In this book I have not discovered any spelling nor grammar mistake and is very thoughtfully written. It is connecting our Princess Amalia with the people who do not know her (yet). It sets out as a view on her daily/weekly live living as a normal human being without really an extra status. The only moments she has that extra status is when she gives her opinion about stuff and her view on questions. Not because of her answers to those questions or her opinion she shares. But because you keep thinking about it at the back of your mind. With this book you discover how much you can relate to her and her life. Though I doubt if many inhabitants of The Netherlands can relate to here completely. Due to this book I can relate a bit to her life and I think I got to know her a little bit better than the general media messages. I would say mission accomplished.
Characters
The main character of this book is our Princess Amalia. Or her full name when she was born: Catharina-Amalia Beatrix Carmen Victoria, Prinses van Oranje, Prinses der Nederlanden, Prinses van Oranje-Nassau. Referencing to her grandparents and former queens.
