My series review of “Narcos | Season One ” created by Carlo Bernard, Doug Miro and Chris Brancato.
In my view…
From some friends I heard that Narcos is a good series based on the life of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. A true-life story, that attracts my attention. I did not know what to expect because I had not heard from Pablo Escobar before. This series can be seen on Netflix.
In this series is Pablo Escobar a man who at one day has a genius idea about setting up a business for making money by growing weed and selling it to the people. He earns even more money when he transports it to the United States and Mexico because there are more people who like to try and use the product.
After a while Pablo Escobar decides to try something in politics. He starts up a campaign to be a candidate for a seat in the government of Colombia. He is very smart and it looks like he maybe will win the election. Pablo is a man who loves his country and his family. He works close for a long time with some friends but some people also become his enemy. This is the cause for a lot of action. And even some real footage of happenings and events is sometimes used in the series.
The main character Pablo Escobar is played by Wagner Moura who is born in Salvador, Brazil and grew up in Rodelas, Bahia. In Brazil the main language is Brazilian Portuguese, but in Colombia they speak Colombian Spanish. The actor had to learn Spanish for the series and I think he is quite good at it for Spanish not being his mother tongue.
For this series you have to resist sometimes the brutal action scenes; I mean you must not be afraid of blood and sometimes some cruelty and women being in a different position than nowadays sometimes. I would say it is definitely a series for the 18+ age. The series is good in the way that you can see how a few decades ago the world was in Colombia and how it had impact in other parts of the world. This happened mostly for real because it is based on the true-life story of Pablo Escobar.
The series episodes vary from 45 minutes to an hour and the first season lasts only for 10 episodes. There is a lot of action, intrigues and complot theories where people talk about. The end of the first season is an open end so you really want to start with the second season. Even a third and fourth season are planned to be released in 2017 and 2018.
What do you think of Narcos?
I am not telling too much about the story – never do in my reviews – you have to see the series yourself and make your own opinion.
