My book review of “Quiz” written by Dick Maas

In my view…

This story is about a television quiz host named Leo Vandermolen who has just presented his last show. His goal for the next television season is to have a break. After years of working he wants to go to Florence for a year together with his wife Sandra and their daughter Monica. Almost everything is settled. But how does a story like this become a thriller?

The writing style of Dick Maas is quite nice. The book starts excited, slows a bit after a quarter but speeds up soon. The rest of the book follows really quick and the writer really knows how to catch you. You think it’s getting slow, you think some information doesn’t matter. You think the story is getting lengthy. Yes you do probably think that when you are halfway through the book. But the end makes it all fine in my opinion. The clue isn’t a classic you can predict easily. That is what I like about the book!

I did not discover any grammar or spelling mistakes while I was just normally reading it. Without mistakes makes it a good readable book.

The main characters are Leo Vandermolen, his wife Sandra, his daughter Monica, his television assistants Koos, Louise and Paula. And finally the owner of Leo’s favourite Italian restaurant: Giuseppe! There is also another very important character, but to make no spoiler I did not mention him. He is ‘The Man’!

A short description about the beginning of the story:

“A famous game show host is being harassed in a restaurant by a strange man who claims to have kidnapped his wife and daughter. A morbid game ensues in which the game show host turns out to be the contestant.” description from IMDb Quiz (2012)

I am not telling about the story – never do in my book reviews – you have to read the book yourself and make your own opinion. I hope you like the book too. It is worth to read it!
