Exactly three years ago was the last Queen’s Day as an official national celebration day in The Netherlands. And I have written a blog post about it that I like to share with you here as well.*
*At that time I had another website, I thought I was improving from Blogspot to Google Sites. And now I am already writing a year on WordPress. Improving in a way of what is your goal because each method has its own style different free possibilities.

A new King and a new Queen and lovely Princess, a lovely Queen’s Day….
Since I was born Queensday has been on the 30th of April every year. As a national holiday to celebrate that we have a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. So our former Queen Beatrix, now Princess Beatrix, celebrated this day with our people, the habitants of The Netherlands.
Together with her whole family, although a big part of it, she went to a city or a place that was chosen to be the place where our Queen would celebrate Queen’s Day that year. Sometimes our Queen visited that day two places for celebrating and feasting with the people.
She has been to the following places (info in Dutch):

And now we are at the point of Queen’s Day this year, 2013.
In january this year, HMS Queen Beatrix announced that she would renunciation of the throne. What would make her Princess Beatrix.
The preparations for the last Queens Day (till princess Amalia becomes a Queen) were since then already in full swing!

The instrument of abdication is signed by Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix, His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima. King Willem-Alexanders has now officially succeeded his mother Princess Beatrix. An special applause for Princess Beatrix appeared when she had signed the instrument of abdication

Since then the new national celebration day is the 27th of April. So if you’ll visit the Netherlands and want to attend the orange-red-white-blue parties, be there on the 27th April and not on the 30th of April. This decision is made by our King because this new date is his birthday. The 30th of April is the birthday of our beloved former Queen and Princess, Juliana [the grandmother of our king].
H.M. the King Willem-Alexander has also visited with his family every year a village / city.

Alvast mijn excuses dat ik niet in het Engels reageer, bloggen is mijn hobby en dán m’n Engels oppoetsen is behoorlijk hard werken.
Eigenlijk kan ik zeggen dat ik drie Koninginnen “versleten heb” en nu aan m’n eerste Koning ben.
Van Koningin Wilhelmina als Koningin kan ik me niet héél veel herinneren, zij gaf het stokje door aan Juliana toen ik pas zes jaar oud was in een tijd dat er nog geen TV was. Toch herinner ik me nog wel dat het school groot oranjefeest was en zag stukjes journaal beelden in de cineac , een bioscoop waar je destijds meestal lang in de rij moest wachten tot je bij de doorlopende voorstelling naar binnen kon.
“mijn” Koningin was dus Koningin Juliana toch ‘ben ik in de loop der jaren ook wel aan Beatrix gewend, zij was immers méér een generatie genoot van me dan haar moeder.
Echt feest gevierd op Koninginnedag heb ik eigenlijk nooit, gewoon niet zo’n uitbundig type denk ik, én drukte en kermissen zijn ook al niet m’n ding;-)
I’ve been to 2 or 3 Queen’s Days in Amsterdam since about 1990. A lot of fun. The cleanup the day after is a sight to behold!
